Grooving Tool Edge Preparations
Unlike conventional honing systems which tend to "overhone" tool corners, the IXM-50 has the ability to precisely control the edge prep on each part of the tool. The above photographs show two grooving tools. The IXM-50 has been used to put a uniform edge prep on the tool on the top. In the bottom photo, operating in a different mode, the IXM-50 has produced a 2:1 ratio between the primary cutting surface and the lateral cutting surface of the tool. This precision edge prep control enables cutting tools to be designed to meet the demands of specific applications. |
